National Adult Volunteer Recognition

Volunteer Glasgow and VAS recently announced their intention to look into the development of a national volunteer recognition scheme for adult volunteers in Scotland. This follows feedback from TSIs demonstrating interest and demand from volunteers and volunteer involving organisations that they work with.

CHEX conference 2017 - save the date

The Community Health Exchange (CHEX) 2017 conference is on Wednesday 1st March 2017. This will be another vibrant event to bring people working for community led health in Scotland together to talk, learn and share.  They are working on the theme now but are thinking of issues around power and opportunities for empowerment brought about by the Community Empowerment Act and beyond.

Alzheimer Scotland Annual Conference 2 June 2017

Alzheimer Scotland’s annual conference – the most important conference date in the diary for Scotland’s dementia community takes place on 2 June 2017. The conference will bring together 550 delegates at the world-class Edinburgh International Conference Centre, for an innovative programme with key international, national and Scottish speakers.

Aspiring Communities Fund

The Scottish Government’s new two year £18.9 million Aspiring Communities Fund is currently inviting applications for the first funding round.  This funding round closes on the 7th April 2017.  There are two stages that organisations should consider applying for, and we intend to run several funding rounds for both stages.  This challenge Fund is being delivered by Social Justice and Regeneration Division, with the Scottish Government as Lead Partner for the 2014-2020 European Social Fund (ESF) Programme.

Asset Transfer Draft Guidance

The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 introduced a right for community bodies to make requests to all local authorities, Scottish Ministers and a wide-ranging list of public bodies, for any land or buildings they feel they could make better use of.  Subject to the agreement of the Parliament, the asset transfer legislation will come into force on 23rd January 2017.

OSCR Issues Reminder to Charities to Complete Annual Return & Accounts Submission

The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) would like to remind charity trustees about Annual Return and Accounts submission. Every year, every charity registered in Scotland has to provide annual information by completing an online Annual Return and uploading or sending OSCR a statement of accounts, a Trustees’ annual report and an external scrutiny report

Charity fraud awareness week resources

The Charity Commission, in collaboration with members of the Charity Sector Counter Fraud Group, has launched a new website dedicated to helping charities in the fight against fraud. It provides an initial point of reference for trustees, staff and volunteers who want to find out more about tackling fraud in their charity, and includes guidance, top tips, case studies, as well as signposting users to other organisations tackling charity fraud.

Scottish Government releases Fairer Scotland Action Plan following national conversation

The Scottish Government has published its Fairer Scotland Action Plan, highlighting how it intends to tackle inequality over the next 14 years. A new publication ‘Trustees and Fundraising: a practical handbook’ has been jointly produced by Institute of Fundraising, Charity Finance Group, ACEVO and NCVO. Charities and incorporation – OSCR briefing

From early November of this year onwards, OSCR will only offer one option for charities looking to incorporate. The single process will mean that charities who want to incorporate will need to apply for status for a new charity and seek consent to wind up the existing charity.

OSCR have updated their Charity Trustee Declaration Form

As part of any application for charitable status, organisations must include completed Charity Trustee Declaration Forms.  These forms have recently been updated, and from October onwards only the new forms will be accepted.
