working together

Starting in October 2015 SLCVO are launching a project to give everyone in our community the opportunity to have a say in how Portree can grow and develop.

  • Are you one of the many people who have ideas about what you want in your community?
  • Do you want to see improved services and facilities in Portree?
  • Would you like a chance make things happen?

This exciting community action project is an opportunity to reinvigorate and re-energise community planning and development in this important island town.

The project is a new approach to identifying what people living here want and need in order to develop and improve services, resources and facilities.

What is Community Led Development?

Community led development is a new way of encouraging  everyone living in a community to get involved in shaping how they would like their community to be. It is different from previous approaches which have often tended to be driven by processes which are remote from the very communities they are supposed to serve. Local groups involved in community  development have often found themselves trapped in endless meetings and consultations with very little actually changing.

Our approach will:

  • Get people together in new ways to explore what everyone wants.
  • Carry out research across the widest possible range of people in the community.
  • Identify and prioritise plans for development which have significant support and backing in the community.
  • Develop realistic plans and ways of attaining these.

We are not trying to recreate the past or create a future of unrealistic expectations — but we believe that by getting people talking and planning we can realistically influence how our community will serve everyone.

By working together we can make things happen...
