SARF Delivery Programme

The Skye and Raasay Future Delivery Programme brings together a wide range of active, planned, and emerging projects that are helping to deliver the shared vision for the area. These projects—led by community groups, third-sector organisations, public bodies, and local businesses—span key priority areas such as climate action, transport, housing, digital infrastructure, health, education, and community resilience.

Each project contributes to one or more of SARF’s outcome areas, supporting a more sustainable, inclusive, and connected Skye and Raasay. The programme reflects the collaborative spirit of the region, showcasing how aligned efforts across sectors are driving long-term impact and meaningful change.

​

With over 35 active projects, alongside feasibility studies and concept proposals, the SARF Delivery Programme provides a living snapshot of investment, partnership, and progress across the area.

Spotlight on Projects 

​Raasay Community Renewals

  • Raasay Community Renewables Ltd, Raasay Development Trust

Raasay Community Renewals Community Benefit Society (registration number 8459) was set up by the residents of the Isle of Raasay to build and operate two community owned run of river hydro-electric generation schemes which harness the combined potential of the 99KW Inverarish Burn Hydro and the 38KW Mine Burn Hydro.

Staffin Harbour Development

  • Staffin Community Trust, The Highland Council & Partners

Upgrading Staffin Harbour has been a long-standing priority for the local community. The planned improvements include a new breakwater to create a sheltered area for boats to use all year round. A new, larger slipway will make it easier and safer for boats and vehicles to access the water at any time. New pontoons will offer safe, year-round berths for local boats and space for visiting leisure boats to stop overnight.

Coral Beach Tourism Infrastructure – in progress

  • SGRPID, The Highland Council

The project includes car parking, toilets, and campervan waste facilities to support sustainable tourism. The access road is complete, with car park construction planned for the autumn. Toilets are scheduled for next year—funding is in place, but work has not yet started

Edinbane Affordable Housing 

  • Edinbane Community Company & Communities Housing Trust, The Highland Council

Following Highland Council’s (THC) recent purchase of land zoned for housing at Coishletter in Edinbane, ECC is now working jointly with THC and The Community Housing Trust (CHT) to assess local demand for affordable housing with a range of tenures and to develop a Masterplan for the ground covered by THC’s purchase.

Urras Baile  Fhlòdaigearraidh 

  • Ionad Thròndairnis

Create a new cultural hub which includes performance/events, community and Ionad Thròndairnis has a vision to develop a cultural community centre ‘Ionad Thròndairnis’, which will not only provide facilities for the local community, but will also provide much needed facilities for tourists, particularly the coach market. The centre will build on the area’s rich Gaelic heritage and strong sense of traditional island community which now only remains in a few areas of the islands.

Broadford Community Hub

  • South Skye Community Campus, The Highland Council, Broadford and Strath Community Company, Broadford and Strath Community Council,

The Campus will be developed alongside the new Broadford Primary School. The school will have a community wing – which will include a double court gym which will be managed by the community out with school hours.

Skye & Lochalsh Health, Wellbeing, Welfare and Social Care Collaboration 

  • SLCVO (lead), multiple local and regional third sector groups, NHSH, Social Work, THC, CAMS, Whole Family Wellbeing Programme

A community-driven project that strengthens third-sector organisations and improves access to and develops new  local health, wellbeing, and social care services

Dunvegan Primary School, Housing and Sports Development 

  • Highland Council, North West Skye Recreational Association, Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association

Dunvegan has been identified as a priority project for Highland Investment Plan Phase 1, with potential delivery within five years, subject to capital funding approval.

A masterplan has been prepared for the Dunvegan campus including the development of adjacent land for housing and a site for a new community sports pitch.
